Week 36 weigh in

I really don't understand my body sometimes. Sometimes I'll have a great week and gain weight (or lose very little). Other times I'll have a bad week and still lose weight. Fortunately, that was the case last week. I don't think I had a very good week, but I still managed a loss. The scale read 263.0 this morning, which is a loss of 1.6 pounds. Coming up on Christmas, I'll definitely take whatever loss I can, so I'm happy with that (even if I don't understand it).

Days 245 & 246 - Terrible weekend

I had a really bad weekend with respect to food. It was a great weekend other than that, but food was really not good. There were a lot of restaurants on Saturday and Sunday night ended up being a movie night, which of course included some snacks. I'm expecting to have to pay the price on the scale Monday.

Day 244 - Yet again, good day & bad night

I had another day where my food was good until the evening. Didn't have the greatest dinner and I did get into some snacks this evening. I've got to figure out why I struggle so much in the evening, when I can do so good throughout the day.

Day 243 - Good day, rough night

I had a pretty good day today. Food was good throughout the day, but I had some significant Christmas cookie calories tonight. I ate a bunch with dinner and had a few more tonight. They are pretty much one bite cookies, so I keep going back for more... but I'm trying to fight against them as best as I can. The old me would have had them all gone in one night (no joke).

Day 242 - Just an OK day

Today wasn't a bad day, but it wasn't great either. I had pretty good food throughout the day, however, we had takeout tonight, so dinner wasn't the greatest. I did however bring home the small pizza instead of the medium (which I was considering), so it's not all bad :-) BUT, my wife made cookies today and she decorated them with my daughter tonight... and I ended up eating 5 of them for dessert. Sigh... it's going to be a rough Christmas season (wrt the waistline).

Day 241 - Another pretty good day

My food today wasn't the greatest, but it wasn't bad either. My meals weren't real healthy, however, portions were good and I didn't get into any snacking tonight. So I think it was a pretty good day overall.

Day 240 - Feeling better... whole new week

My cold is almost gone and I'm feeling much better now. Still a bit tired, but much better. And I was able to start this week off with a great day. Good portions, limited snacking this evening and good food throughout the day, makes for a great start to the week.

Days 237, 238 & 239 - MIA

I had no update these days as I really had a bad weekend. Including overindulgences, snacks, fast food and bad meals. Let's just skip forward to next week shall we :-)

Week 35 weigh in

Well... let's just call last week "the week that wasn't". It had to be the worst week I've had over the past 35 weeks. It's easy to blame my cold... but really it boils down to getting back into my pre-diet habits. Those habits that pushed me over 300 pounds.

I have decided to not have my old mentality of 'now my diet is broken, so it's all over'. I am re-devoting myself to good eating as of today. This is a whole new week... so let's see where it'll take me.

As for my weigh-in, I was surprised to see that I didn't gain 5 pounds. My weigh in was 264.6, which is a gain of 2 pounds. Obviously not happy with a gain, but as least I should be able to erase that gain this week... fingers crossed.

Day 236 - In a funk

This cold has really gotten me in a funk. I've pretty much thrown my diet out the window. I wish I hadn't (after snacking), but I just don't feel like I have the motivation to stick with my food plan. I'm hopeful that once I feel better (which is soon I hope), I can get back on track. I'm sure this evening snacking is packing on the pounds...

Day 235 - Feeling worse again

Really not feeling well tonight. If I'm feeling like this in the morning, I may just be taking a sick day. And I thought I was over this cold... but now it's back with a vengence :-(

And to top things off, I had a really bad day today. I had a good day going until tonight. Feeling so blah made me want to sit in front of the TV and eat... which I did :-( Back to far too many snacks, which I know doesn't solve any problems, but for whatever reason I just crave it. I've got to find a way to break that craving once and for all.... sigh.

Day 234 - OK day, but still under the weather

My food today was pretty good. I had some decent meals and didn't really snack tonight. So it was a pretty good day. Unfortunately, I'm still not feeling great. This cold is hanging on and my throat is pretty sore in the evenings. I've got a cough overnight which tends to keep me up a bit. I'm hoping this will all be over soon... but we're just getting into cold season. I hope it's not like this all winter.

Day 233 - Decent start to the week

I had a pretty good day today food wise. I did have a couple chips tonight while watching TV, however, there were very few left so I don't think I took in too many calories. Other than that, I had some good meals with decent portion sizes... so I think I'm off to a good start this week.

Week 34 weigh in

As I expected, I ended up with a gain last week. I'm now at 262.6. Surprisingly, I only gained 1.4 pounds. I thought I had a worse week than that. Obviously, I'm not thrilled with a gain, but I'm a bit releaved that it wasn't 5 pounds or something.

Well, I'm hoping that I can have a great week this week and drop, not only that 1.4 pounds, but also the 1.2 pounds that was keeping me in the 260s. So, goal for next week is 250s... we'll see how it goes.

Day 232 - Completed a bad week with a bang

This week hasn't been very good, so I guess I decided to finish it off with a bang. Really not a good day today food wise. I was at a movie with my daughter and of course we got snacks. I was watching TV with my wife today and we also had snacks. There was an awful lot of snacking this weekend. I expect I'll pay the price at tomorrow's weigh in... and I'll just have to get back on board next week.

Unfortunately I didn't do very well resisting anything yesterday. Boy I have a hard time on weekends... without having the structure of a weekday, I just seem to stumble over and over.

Today wasn't too bad. I had a good breakfast, a good lunch, a good snack... but the evening was a different story. Tonight was the annual spirits festival (aka Scotchfest). It was a great time... except my head is still pounding. Although rushing out the door and scarfing down a few peices of pizza only to drink all night is probably not ideal in terms of weight loss. Oh well... it was a good time and only happens once a year.

Like Raegun, I just can't have junk in the house. I think about it constantly until it's gone. Add to that, I was home this afternoon and had a lunch of leftovers (not very healthy) and a pizza dinner... it was all in all just a terrible day food wise.

Day 228 - Feeling better, but not a great day

I got a solid 11 hours of sleep last night and woke up feeling much better this morning. Still not the greatest, but I don't feel like I'm coming down with the flu anymore. Let's hope it just gets better from here.

Unfortunately I didn't have the greatest day today. I stumbled a bit tonight in that I had some snacks this evening. There was some cake and chocolates in the house and I just couldn't resist them while watching TV. I was however able to stop before cleaning out the box of chocolates... which is a bit of a victory (hey... I'll take what I can get). Here's hoping for a better day tomorrow.

Day 226 - Here comes the cold

Double meaning there. It has snowed 2 of the last 3 days so I just put my snow tires on tonight... so winter is on it's way. Also, the kids are both sick and I've started getting a scratchy throat and I'm feeling acky... so here comes my cold too. So tonight I was curled up on the couch and happened to have a few snacks in front of me. I know, not the best approach to losing weight. I'm planning on turning things around and improving my week from here on out... provided I don't get any sicker... fingers crossed.

Week 33 weigh in

I managed to pull off a loss last week, but not exactly a huge one. I was hoping to break back into the 250's this morning, however, the scale read 261.2. I thought I had a great week last week (except perhaps Sunday), so I was hoping for more, but I suppose I should be happy with a loss of 1.4 pounds. Here's to another great week :-)

Also, we had frozen pizza for dinner (I know, not the best dinner) but I was able to keep the portions to a reasonable amount... very proud of that.

Week 32 weigh in

Wow, my weigh in this morning was a huge loss. The scale read 262.6, which is a loss of 6.4 pounds from last week. Perhaps I was carrying a lot of 'water weight' last week or something. I don't claim to completely understand how the body works, but even though I had a pretty good week, I can't imaging losing almost a pound a day of fat. There must have been something else at play. Regardless, I'm back on track and heading in the right direction... horray!!!

Day 218 - Pretty good day... for a weekend

I didn't have a great day today, but it wasn't bad either... especially given that it was a weekend day. My meals weren't great, but there were no restaurants involved today and I didn't snack tonight. Let's hope the weigh in tomorrow shows a loss of some of last week's gain.

Week 31 weigh in

OMG, what a terrible weekend... and the scale punished me for it this morning. I'm at 269.0, which is a gain of 5.8 pounds. The trend lately has definitely been in the wrong direction, and I've got to turn this around. I've thrown away a lot of hard work already, so hopefully with my wife and I both working towards better health, we can right this ship.

Days 209, 210 & 211 - I don't want to talk about it

Terrible past few days. This weekend was a real bender food-wise. I just don't understand why I'm so tempted to throw junk down my throat... I know nothing positive comes from it, yet I'm still tempted to go ahead and do it. This weekend was just a total write off. Restaurants, desserts, snacks, etc. I'd be embarrased to list my food for the weekend. :-(

If anything positive has come from this weekend, it's that I think my wife and I have finally agreed that we need to shape up. She's agreed to try and work with me to do better together. We're going to start getting active (slowly at first) and we're going to try and eat better meals during the evenings and weekends (when I really struggle). We've made this decision before, but I'm hopeful that this one will stick... fingers crossed.

Week 30 weigh in

The crazy halloween weekend did a number on my Monday weigh in. The scale read 263.2 this morning. I had expected a gain, but I'm continually surprised at how quickly I can gain weight when I don't focus on eating good foods. That's a gain of 5 pounds after doing OK throughout the week last week. I'm learning more and more that I'm going to have to stay on top of my weight issue for the rest of my life, otherwise, I'll balloon back up to well over 300.

Well, now the task is to get that 5 pounds back off. Here we go.

Days 202, 203 & 204 - Dang Halloween

Last Friday, Day 202 was a good day. I had pretty good food throughout the day and I got out for another hour of hockey Friday night.

Unfortunately, this weekend (Days 203 & 204) was a gong show. With all the chips and candy flying around this house on Halloween weekend, I did absolutely terrible. I've got to chalk this weekend up to a complete failure and start with a clean slate tomorrow.

Well, last week was a bit rough. There were definitely some ups and downs throughout the week. I was glad to see a bit of a loss on the scale this morning. I'm down to 258.2, which is a loss of 1.6 pounds. Definitely not a great week, but after my struggles last week, I'll gladly take the loss.

Day 193 - Happy birthday... sort of

Well, my readers aren't going to be too happy with me today. I don't even want to post what was eaten today... let's just say South Beach Steve wouldn't be too happy about it. Alright, alright... it included a pizza, cake and some junk food. In my defense, it was my birthday today and I figured I could go a little crazy. Unfortunately, there's been more crazy than sane the last little while, which has got to turn around soon. Well, tomorrow's a new day and I plan on making it a great day. Wish me luck.

Oh, and TJ... I'm a big fan of the food network as well. Although I probably shouldn't be because I'm a sucker for all the awesome things the various food network chefs whip up. Fast forwarding the commercials does help as I'm also a sucker for advertisements, but watching the food network always makes we want to try new recipes, which are never very healthy (except Eat, Shrink & be Merry).

Days 192 - Wish I double didn't

Rought night tonight. With all the advertising that's been going on for the KFC double down coming to Canada, I just had to check it out. So I ended up having one for dinner and it was a huge dissappointment. It's not very tasty and it's difficult to eat. figured my meal was blown already, so I decided to have a dessert too. I got a pumpkin pie blizzard from DQ as I was told by a co-worker that it was his favorite blizzard. Again, that was a bust. I thought it tasted like cold pumpkin puree... not my idea of a good dessert. So... bottom line... I blew my diet and it was all for nothing... booooo.

Day 184 - More trouble

Still not a very good day today. Lots of leftovers and sweets today. I seem to have lost my motivation... I really have to figure out how to get it back because at this rate, I'll be back up to 300+ by Christmas :-(

Week 27 weigh in

Well, I guess I should have expected a bad weigh in after the weekend I had, but I was hoping it wouldn't be this bad. The scale read 261.2 this morning. That's a 3.4 pound gain. My goodness I put on weight fast. Just a few days of bad eating and I gain back anything I had lost throughout the week, plus another almost 4 pounds. Guess that just tells me that I have to stay on top of my eating... indefinitely. Here's hoping for a better week this week.

Day 182 & 183 - Off my diet... temporarily

Saturday and Sunday were not very good. I kind of threw my diet out this weekend. I figured if I'm going to have a splurge weekend, what better time to do it than Thanksgiving. And boy did I splurge. I reverted back to my old ways a little bit and it didn't feel too good. I guess I'm not used to eating like that anymore because it make me feel a little sick, not to mention the guilt that comes along with it. I'm going to try and get right back on track on Monday... although the house is filled with leftovers, so it's probably going to be a rough start to the week.

I got some bad news yesterday and I spiraled out of control a bit last night. I pretty much threw caution to the wind and jumped on the snacking train. Of course I felt guilty afterward as it didn't change anything, but I guess I'm still going to have to struggle with the fact that I will tend to head to food when stress becomes too much. I suppose being aware of that fact should help me control it as best I can. I did have a decent day today. Last week was a week of ups and downs, however, I finished the week with a decent weekend. So it all added up to a loss of 3 pounds. When I got on the scale this morning, it read 257.8. I was happy to see that, as my weight is going in the right direction again. Fingers crossed I can keep it up moving forward.

It was a busy weekend with a few sick kids, but I was able to do pretty well health wise. I had some really good meals, kept the portions under control and didn't really have any snacking to speak of. All in all, I'd have to say it was as good a weekend as could be expected.

Today was a pretty bad day in the health department. I was on the road today, so my lunch was fast food and my choices weren't great. I was at the clinic with my daughter this evening as she's come down some 2 ear infections, so we picked up dinner while we waited to see a doctor. And to top all that off, my wife has decided to start eating better starting tomorrow, so we had a snacky night tonight (with significant junk food). Day 170 - Good start to the week

I had a pretty good day today, food wise. My only complaint would be that my portion size was a bit too big at dinner time. A peice or two of garlic bread too many. I've really got to focus on that when we have pasta (which is all too often) as I find it's very easy to over do it.

Week 25 weigh in

Well, as expected, last week wasn't a very good week. My weigh in this morning was 260.8, which is a gain of 1.2 pounds. I'm not real happy about that, but I can't be surprised. I've taken my eyes of the prize over the last little while, so it's bound to happen. I'm just hoping that things will turn around for me soon sO I can get back on track.

Day 169 - Yet another struggle

I've really been struggling lately. I've got some stuff going on right now that's causing a lot of stress and my eating hasn't been great lately. I'm going to blame my stress from distracting me from my weight-loss goals lately. I'm hoping that I haven't gained anything at tomorrow's weigh-in, but I'm definitely not expecting a big loss. Unfortunately, it looks like another stressful week coming up. Hopefully things will settle down after this week... but we'll see.

Day 167 - Struggled a bit tonight

I struggled a bit today with food. I was in some training today and they ordered in lunch and it happened to be pizza... my arch nemisis. And tonight we had some snacks laying around the house and I tried to avoid them, but I ended up cracking and dipped into the chips a bit. So, it really wasn't a great way to start off the weekend. Here's hoping it gets better from here on in.

Day 166 - Finally, some exercise... horray

Not an overly great food day today, however, I did get in some great exercise. I was on a kayaking trip today and did about 3 hours of sea kayaking. It was a beatiful day and the trip was awesome. I'm thinking that my shoulders may be a bit sore tomorrow, but definitely worth it.

So all in all today was a bit of a bust. Here's hoping tomorrow is better.

I've been pretty stressed out lately with some things going on at work lately and they say stress really plays a role with respect to weight gain/loss. So, I'm doing what I can to stay on track. Unfortunately I've been really slack with exercise lately as I just haven't had the time (or motivation I guess) to start up a new workout routine. Fortunately, I'm keeping my eating on track and today was another good day. Hopefully everything will settle down soon and I can get back into a groove.

Week 24 weigh in

Overall, last week was a pretty good week and it showed on the scale. I was able to lose everything I had gained the previous week and then some. The scale read 259.6 this morning, which is a loss of 4 pounds. I'm very happy with that, especially given that my weekend wasn't great (as they usually aren't). I'm only 9.6 pounds away from my next mini-goal. A few weeks and I should have that one knocked off.

Days 161 & 162 - Fun weekend, but bad food

As expected, it was another rough weekend. We hosted a party yesterday, which was a lot of fun, but a bit rough on the waistline. We BBQed up 3 pork shoulders and a bunch of chicken breasts. People brough various salads and desserts. There was so much food in this house it was rediculous. So everyone ate, drank and had a good time. I think just about everyone went home with a doggy bag of food and we were still eating leftovers today. Guess we're still in the mindset of doing it big when it comes to food. I did have a pretty good week last week, so I'm hoping that this weekend doesn't result in another gain. Fingers crossed, I'm down a couple pounds tomorrow. My weighin in the morning will tell the tale.

I had another good day today food wise, but I'm still not on the workout train so I've got to say that today was good... not great... but good. Tonight my wife asked if I wanted to get some snacks and I was able to resist. I've done good all week and didn't want to blow it, especially since we're having a BBQ tomorrow and I expect to be well over my calorie limit for the day.

Day 156 - Pretty good start to the week

I had a pretty good day today with respect to my food intake. I got right back on track and had 3 good meals today and a good afternoon snack. Perhaps may have had a bit too much garlic bread at dinner, but that's a very slight mistake compared to the weekend I just had. So I'm off to what I think is a great start this week.

Week 23 weigh in

The weigh in this morning was disappointing, but not surprising. I'm at 263.6, which is a gain of 1.6 pounds. I know I can't expect to eat the way I used to and still lose weight. I don't really have much to say about my gain last week, other than it's a bit embarrassing. I'm going to get right back on track this week and lose that 1.6 pounds and then some.

Day 155 - Terrible day today

I had such a bad day today I don't even want to fess up to what I ate throughout the day. We had french toast for breakfast and then the family went for a day trip out of town, so the day went downhill from there (food wise). We had 2 meals at restaurants, plus some ice creams for a snack. I fell into the trap of 'It's been a bad day, so lets just throw the diet out the window' mentality, because when we got home we decided to have some snacks tonight. Snacks which included chips and chocolate covered almonds (my favs). I've done really well to avoid sinking back into that mentality, but today was just a failure. I'm really going to try and get back on track this coming week as I know I've still got a long journey in front of me and falling back into my old habits like this isn't helping matters.

On the plus side, I had a great day with my wife and kids. Now I've just got to figure out how to have that great day and still stay away from bad foods.

Day 149 - Pretty good labour day

I had a pretty good day today to start out the week... the fact that it was a holiday doesn't hurt either :-) I got a great workout in today as I was prepping for the seeder that is supposed to come tomorrow. I was doing yard work for about 3 hours or so. I also had a pretty good day in the food department. Not perfect as I had some birthday cake this afternoon, but is was pretty close.

Week 22 weigh in with photos

I really felt that I struggled this past week, however, I was plesantly surprised by scale this morning. I'm now at 262.0, which is a loss of 3 pounds and I'm thrilled with that result. I guess those small decisions I made throughout the week really paid off (ie: Baked chips when I did snack, etc). With the junk food being out of the house for the most part now, I'm hoping that this week will be even better than last. Although I'd be thrilled with another 3 pound week too.

Day 148 - Better day today

Not a perfect day today by any stretch of the imagination, but I felt that today was a better day than I've had in a while. I got a bit of a workout in as I'm doing some final touches in the yard getting ready for the seeders to come on Tuesday. Day 147 - Still not a great day

Well, hurricane Earl made a last minute turn and pretty much missed us completely. Just some wind and rain this afternoon, but nothing major. That was pretty much the only good part of my day today. I didn't get a workout in and my food was worst than average. My meals weren't great and I had some chips tonight that were left over from lastnight's snackfest. I agree with TJ's comment from yesterday in that if they're in the house I will eat them. I've really got to try and keep that kind of thing out of my house completely.

Day 146 - Bad day today

This is supposed to be the last day of our heat wave as hurricane Earl is supposed to make an appearance tomorrow. So it's been a pretty rough week all around, but today was the worst yet. Of course there was no workout to speak of, but I also had a bad day food wise. After a few bad days in the office this week I had an urge to let loose a bit tonight so I snacked on some high calorie foods. I also had fast food for dinner. So it was a rough food day all around. Hopefully I can keep things together a bit better for the rest of the weekend.

Wow, after typing that entire evening snack out it seems a bit rediculous. And to tell you the truth, tonight would have been a good night in comparison to what I used to eat in the evenings. No wonder I've gotten as big as I have. Evening snacking has got to be the #1 reason I've struggled with my weight, so I'm going to try to get back on board tomorrow and cut out this crazy snacking again.

Day 145 - Another OK food day with no workout

Seems like my blog update should just read 'ditto' every day this week. Another decent food day, with no workout. Hate to keep blaming the weather, but it was another 40 degree day today (with the humidex), so I'm not going to start up a treadmill routine in that kind of heat. I guess there's good news and bad news. Good news is that the heat is supposed to start to break tomorrow, however, the bad news is that there's a hurricane coming the day after. Hopefully we don't get it too bad, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Another scotcher of a day here today. It was over 40 degrees with the humidex... so the A/C has been running all day. We've been hanging out in the basement trying to stay cool, so needless to say there was no workout again today. My food was pretty good, but we did order some chinese for dinner as nobody wanted to cook. So it wasn't terrible, but it could have been better.

I had a pretty good day today with respect to food. I did go out to lunch with my wife, so the lunch wasn't the best ever, but I kept it reasonable. I didn't get a workout in today however. It was so hot here today (38 with humidex), the last thing I wanted to do was workout tonight. Getting on a treadmill schedule is on my todo list, so it'll happen right after this heatwave is over.

Week 21 weigh in

Dodged another bullet this week. The weigh in reads 265.0 this week, which is a loss of 1.8 pounds. My Monday through Thursday last week must have been exceptionally great to pull of any loss at all after the weekend I had. If I could just keep that going through the weekend, I'd be reaching my goals so much faster. Well, I really can't complain as a loss is a loss I guess. Slow and steady wins the race as they say.

Days 139, 140 & 141 - Enter Jekyll and Hyde

I had a really fun weekend this weekend. On Friday morning I surprised my wife with a weekend getaway with the kids. I took the day off and I told her get up, get dressed and pack for 2 days (bring beach stuff). We had a great weekend cabin camping on PEI.

Unfortunately, camping (like so may other things) seems to bring out the worst in me health wise. We had junk food and beers around the campfire and meals in restaurants that were far from low-cal. Sigh. I swear I'm it's just like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. I try so hard throughout the week and I do so well, but then I get into a scenario like camping or poker or playing cards with family and everything I've worked for just goes out the window like I'm a totally different person. All these things seem to just be associated with eating, and eating food that is not exactly good for you. I guess that's why I got as big as I did. However, when I get in those situations I just seem to revert to my old self. I need to somehow learn to live a balanced life and perhaps partake in these things with extreme moderation and not do the all or nothing thing that I have been doing. Anyone have any tips with respect to how they deal with living through the same scenarios that got them overweight, but not allowing them to become pitfalls in their new journey?

I know I did really good last week Monday through Thursday. With Friday through Sunday just being a gong show, I'm not sure what to expect on the scale. Things were so bad, I wouldn't be surprised to see a gain... hopefully not too much. Fingers crossed that it's not as bad as I fear.
