Week 8 weigh in - eye opening

Wow... all I can say is wow. I knew I had a bad weekend, but this is crazy. I did great for 5 days last week and dropped some pounds. Have two bad days over the weekend and everything comes back along with a few additional pounds. It's amazing to me that two weeks of losses can be gained back over a weekend.

My current weigh in is 291.8, which is up 2.2 pounds from last week's weigh in and up 4.4 pounds from Friday. My goodness, my body is efficient at adding on the weight. Up 4.4 pounds since Friday... just mind boggling. Well, time to get serious and start dropping those extra pounds.

Day 49 & 50 - rough weekend

Well, as expected this weekend was pretty bad. Lots of restaurants and lots of drinking. In the past I would now say that I'm no longer losing weight since I'm off my 'diet' and I'd go right back to my old habits. However, I've made a decision that I'm not doing that this time around. Minor slippups aren't going to completely derail me. So, I'm back on track starting tomorrow. I've also got a weigh-in tomorrow morning, so it'll be interesting to see what kind of toll a few days out of town takes on me. Stay tuned...

Day 48 - Not a great day food wise

Today wasn't great food wise, although it could have been worse. I was able to snack on pretzels instead of chips while playing poker, so that was good. Unfortunately, I ordered a pizza on the way home from work as I was in a hurry to get back out of the house. Also, there wasn't any workout today... so as expected, the weekend is off to a rough start health wise.

Week 7.5 weigh in

Well, I jumped on the scale this morning and I'm down to 287.4. That's a loss of a little more than 2 pounds in 5 days. I'm pretty happy with that. Now for a little experiment. I'll be at a poker party tonight and then out of town with friends on Saturday/Sunday. I know there will be a lot of drinking and eating junk food and at restaurants. I'm going to try to keep things reasonable, but I'll obviously be off my 'diet'. So, it'll be interesting to see if I gain back any or all of the weight I've lost this week, just by going off my diet for a few days.

Thursday, May 27, 2010

Day 47 - A good day with more yard work

Well, I had another good day of eating today. Why can't all my weeks go this well :-) I also got some activity in tonight as I did about 1 1/2 hours of yard work after work. So all in all a pretty good day.

I'd guess that I'm down a couple pounds given that my food intake has been really good this week. And since I know I'm going to have an off weekend I think I'm going to do a mid-week weigh in tomorrow. I'd be interested in knowing how much I've lost this week and how much I put back on after a bad weekend. Fingers crossed I'm actually down a few tomorrow.

Day 46 - Trying to be good

I'm trying to be very good this week because I have a poker night on Friday night and I'm out of town for a beer festival on Saturday. So, I expect the weekend to be a writeoff in terms of weight loss. Therefore, I'm trying to get ahead of the game by losing some this week and hopefully balancing things out for next weeks weigh-in.

Fortunately I've been able to stick with it this week. I had another good day today food wise and I even got a little workout in this evening.

Day 45 - Great day food wise

Well, I had a really good day today in terms of my food intake. I had good meals and I kept my portions small. I'm a little hungry right now, but it's time for bed anyway, so I guess I'll look forward to a good breakfast tomorrow. Didn't get any exercise in tonight but my legs and back are still a little sore from yesterday, so a day of rest probably isn't a terrible thing.

Day 44 - Good day... with lots of sweating

Well, I think I may have overdone it today. I tried to get some yard work done on this Victoria Day and I ended up spending 3 1/2 hours doing some serious yard work in 30+ degrees. I didn't quite finish up what I wanted to do because I had to cut it short as I thought I might be getting heat stroke. I'm feeling much better now, but I'm very tired tonight. Food wise, I think I had a really good day too. All in all, it was a pretty good start to the week.

Here's how today broke down:

Breakfast:
- Cottage cheese pancakes with Lite syrup
- Orange juice
- Coffee

Lunch:

- Diet coke

Evening Snack:

- 2 hard candies

Workout:
- 3.5 hours of physical yard work (including 2.5 hours of digging up and carrying rocks)

Week 7 weigh in.... meh

Well, after last weeks unexpected loss, I had a very small loss this week. My weigh in was 289.6, which is a loss of 0.4 pounds. My thoughts are that last week I was dehydrated as I was fighting a cold, which resulted in a big loss on the scale. This week I no longer have a cold, so I am well hydrated, which adds some weight back on. So I guess I should be happy that I still had a loss, even though I'm am more hydrated than last week. Here's hoping for a good week this week because next weekend is going to be a gong show (big plans on Friday & Saturday).

Sunday, May 23, 2010

Day 43 - Decent day today... hoping for a decent weigh-in tomorrow

Day 39 - Not a good day food wise

Well, today wasn't a very good day in terms of what I ate. We were out to a great restaurant for dinner tonight to celebrate my wifes birthday. It was so bad, I'm going to go ahead and consider today my cheat day. I typically do that on a weekend because I find weekends are difficult, but I'm going to make an exception this week. I guess that means I'll have to try and be good this coming weekend.

Here's how today broke down:

Breakfast:
- Bowl of cereal

Day 38 - Not too bad for a birthday

Well... as expected, today wasn't perfect healthy wise, as it was my wife's birthday. We had some cake and spent most of the day together with the kids, which means I didn't get a workout in. I did however fight off that second peice of cake, so there's a mini victory in there. :-) Tomorrow should be another challenge as we're going out for a night on the town to celebrate her birthday again since we have sitters. My goodness it's hard to stay on track... if it's not one thing it's another. :-)

Here's how today broke down:

Breakfast:

Day 37 - Some good news and some bad news

Well, my eating today was all good until we decided to grab something quick for dinner. Yes, sadly enough we brought KFC home for dinner tonight. I've been pretty good at avoiding the fast food joints lately, but I caved tonight. I'll try not to let it become a habit (again). On the positive side of things, I fealt good enough tonight to do a little exercise. I thought I'd start out slow again, so I did a brisk 1 mile walk. Not too strenuous, but it got me sweating, which is the whole point I guess. I'm looking forward to building off that 1 mile.

Week 6 weigh in.... unexplained

Well, I was a bit nervous about getting on the scale this morning, but it turns out that it was for no good reason. I hopped on the scale and it read 290.0. That's right... 290.0, which is a loss of 5.0 pounds. I didn't exercise at all last week, so I'm surprised by that loss. Perhaps I'm a bit dehydrated due to my cold or something. Regardless, I'm thrilled that I didn't put weight back on during my recovery week. Here's to an upcoming week including exercise... :-)

Sunday, May 16, 2010

Day 36 - Odd day today

I was up early this morning and out of town for most the day, so my eating was very irregular. I think I made out OK, but not what I'd typically eat on a Sunday. I'm a bit concerned about tomorrow's weigh in. With pretty much no exercise this week, I'm thinking I may have gained a little. Although my snacking has been under control and I think my portions are doing reasonably well, so hopefully I haven't gained too much... fingers crossed.

Lunch:

Day 35 - Off the meds... yeay

Well, today is the first day in almost a week that I haven't taken any cold medication. Still not feeling great, but given that I'm not bad enought to run to the Neocitran is definitely a good sign. Food was OK today, but again, no workout. I'm hoping to get back on board with a walk on Monday... we'll see.

Day 33 - Another BLAH day

After waking up yesterday morning feeling pretty good, I was hoping that this cold was just a 24 hour cold. Unfortunately I felt terrible again today... and now the kids of my cold as well. Going to make for a fun few days. :-( I'm trying to keep my food intake reasonable because I'm not going to get much exercise in this week. Since I'm a little off track, I'm hoping that I can just maintain my loss this week. Fingers crossed that things get better later in the week and I can get a walk in on the weekend.

Day 32 - Feeling much better already

I was concerned about how I'd feel today given that I felt so terrible last night, but fortunately I woke up this morning not feeling all that terrible. Still have a head cold with a sore throat, but nothing some neocitran can't take care of (btw: Neocitran is my favorite cold medication... it's a hot lemon drink that works like a charm). My food today was OK, but I'm still not working out, so just an OK day today I guess. Hopefully things will get even better as the week rolls along.

Here's how today broke down:

Breakfast:
- Bowl of cereal

Day 31 - Not a great start to the week

With the exception of the weigh in this morning, today wasn't a great start to the new week. Since nobody felt like making dinner, I ended up picking up a pizza for dinner tonight. And given the way I'm feeling tonight, there will be no workout as I'm off to bed early. On the positive side, breakfast and lunch were good and I didn't snack much... assuming a neocitran doesn't count as a snack :-)

Here's how today broke down:

- Bowl of cereal

- Orange juice
- Coffee

Lunch:
- Smart Ones chicken flat bread
- Tangerine

Week 5 weigh in along with another possible setback

So I stepped on the scale this morning and I see 295.0 staring back at me. I knew I had a good week last week, but I didn't expect to lose 5.4 pounds. I'm thrilled with that number.

Unfortunately, I woke up this morning with a sore throat and my wife is very much under the weather. It would appear we're coming down with a cold. This is getting very frustrating. It seems like each time I start getting into a groove I have another setback. Fingers crossed that my sore throat doesn't turn into what my wife is going through this morning... time will tell I guess... (sigh).

Sunday, May 9, 2010

Day 31 - Just an OK day today

Happy Mother's day to all the Moms out there.

Today was just an OK day. The weekends are always a bit more difficult for me, but with that said, it wasn't a terrible day. Decent food and a little strength training exercising, so not great but not bad either. I'm just hoping I did enough to get well below that 300 pound mark for tomorrow's weigh in... stay tuned :-)

Saturday, May 8, 2010

Day 30 - Small failure leads to small victory

Food was pretty good again today. My meals were decent, snacking was under control and my portion sizes were good. All in all, not a bad day. Funny thing about my overeating at last night's dinner... I guess it stayed with me. When I was eating dinner tonight, I felt that my portion size was a bit too big, so I actually left some food on my plate as I didn't want a repeat of last night. Leaving food on my plate (especially when it's something I enjoy) isn't typically something I'd do, so I'd say it's a step in the right direction. Perhaps I'm finally learning to eat to live rather than live to eat.

I've been feeling pretty good lately (back-wise), so I've decided to get back into the strength training. Nothing too serious, but on days when I'm not on the treadmill, I plan on doing 3 sets of certain exercises (ie: squals, pushups, etc). I'll focus on legs one day, chest & arms another day and core a third day. If I can get 3 days of strength training and 3 days of cardio in every week, I'd be pretty happy. Tonight was my first night and I did some leg exercises.

Here's how today broke down:

Breakfast:
- Bowl of cereal
- 1/2 grapefruit
- Orange juice
- Coffee

Lunch:
- Ham & cheese sandwich
- Yogurt fruit cup
- Coffee

Afternoon snack:

- Diet coke

Evening Snack:
- 3 hard candies
- Water

Workout:
- leg workout (squats, lunges & calf raises)

Day 29 - Too much at dinner, but great workout

Well, dinner tonight was the first slip-up this week. I BBQed some burgers and ended up eating two of them. There were quite big, so I was stuffed afterwards and wished I had only eaten one. Portion control is something I've been trying to work on and tonight I didn't do a great job. Fortunately, with the exception of dinner, my food throughout the day was good.

I did have a great workout tonight. I think I may have pushed myself a little bit as a punishment for my dinner. I walked/joggged 2 miles tonight with 9 minutes of jogging. My calorie burn was over 400 calories. Great workout... by far my best yet since I got back on the treadmill 29 days ago.

Day 28 - Great week so far

Here's my daily update from yesterday... better late than never I guess. I had another good day in terms of food. Being back in the office seems to help me keep on track (I was out on parental leave for 7 weeks until this week). I think the structure of a daily routine is helpful to me. I had good meals again and the snacking was under control. No workout as I should have done some strength training, but I"m going to wait till next week to start that up again. All in all, not a bad day.

Day 27 - Another good day

This week has been really good in terms of food intake. At this pace I should blow away that 300 pound barrier (provided the weekend isn't a flop). I had some good meals today and snacking was kept under control yet again. I also got a walk/jog in tonight. One and a half miles, which included 5 minutes of jogging. The treadmill read that I burned 300+ calories, which I'm really happy with. And best of all... my back seems to be pretty much OK now... fingers crossed that it says that way after that run :-)

Another good day today food wise. I didn't get a workout in however. My back is still a bit tender, so I'm not doing any strength training exercises yet and since I walked last night, I took the night off. Today my back is feeling better than it has since I hurt it... so I guess it's getting better... hopefully I'll be back on the strength training within a week.

Week 4 weigh in with photos

Well, I did end up having a great week, even with the free day on Saturday. I'm down to 300.4, which is a loss of 3.4 pounds. I'm so close to breaking that 300 pound mark I can taste it... perhaps a few less slices of pizza on Saturday and I would be under 300 today. Oh well... that's a good goal for next week I guess.

I've included my monthly photos below. I don't really see any difference yet, but it hasn't even been a full month yet. Six months from now, my monthly picture should look much different.

Day 24 - Back on track

Pretty good day today eating wise. Pancakes for breakfast aren't the greatest, but my daughter asked for them so I had to join her. I didn't put chocolate chips in them, so that saved me a ton of calories. I think I may give the treadmill a try tomorrow. Although I'll likely start out pretty light.

Stay tuned for my weekly weigh-in tomorrow as well as my monthly photos. My week was pretty good (until yesterday), so I'm hoping I'll have a few pounds lots... we'll see :-)

Here's how today broke down:

Breakfast:
- Pancakes
- Orange juice
- Coffee (X2)

Lunch:
- Beef soup
- Soda crackers
- Water

Afternoon snack:
- None

Supper:
- Spagetti with meat sauce
- Baguette
- Diet coke

Evening Snack:
- Coffee
- Diet coke
- 2 hard candies

Workout:
- None (still resting my back... although I think I'm almost ready to get back on the treadmill)

Day 23 - Failure... or free day?

Well, today was a pretty rough day. Spent the morning and afternoon at the lake, so my early meals weren't great. And tonight's dinner was pizza. We ate dinner late and I didn't have an afternoon snack, so I was very hungry and ended up eating far too much. So I'd have to say I fell of the wagon today, however, I've read a few articles where people state that they occationally given themselves a free day, where they can splurge a little and eat all their favorite foods. So I'm going to consider this my free day and get back on the horse tomorrow.

Here's how today broke down:

Breakfast:
- Cheese omelet
- Toast
- Ham steak
- Coffee (X2)

Lunch:
- BBQed Burger (X2)
- Beer (X2)
- Diet coke

Afternoon snack:
- None

Supper:
- Pizza (too much... 5 slices)
- Diet coke

Evening Snack:
- Diet coke
- 2 hard candies

Workout:
- None (still resting my back... although I think I'm almost ready to get back on the treadmill)
