Day 143 - Another OK food day, but still no workout

I had a day very similar to yesterday today. It was a pretty good day today with respect to food, but still no workout. With the extreme heat wave going on here and expected to last a few more days, I don't see myself getting on a treadmill program this week. Looks like it may be a pretty slack week in the workout department.

Here's how today broke down:

- Coffee

Lunch:
- Smart Ones frozen pizza
- Orange

Day 142 - OK food day, but workout lacking

I had a pretty good day today with respect to food. I did go out to lunch with my wife, so the lunch wasn't the best ever, but I kept it reasonable. I didn't get a workout in today however. It was so hot here today (38 with humidex), the last thing I wanted to do was workout tonight. Getting on a treadmill schedule is on my todo list, so it'll happen right after this heatwave is over.

Here's how today broke down:

Breakfast:
- Cereal
- Orange juice
- Coffee

Lunch:
- Ceasar salad
- Italian wedding soup (2 bowls)
- Garlic bread

Week 21 weigh in

Dodged another bullet this week. The weigh in reads 265.0 this week, which is a loss of 1.8 pounds. My Monday through Thursday last week must have been exceptionally great to pull of any loss at all after the weekend I had. If I could just keep that going through the weekend, I'd be reaching my goals so much faster. Well, I really can't complain as a loss is a loss I guess. Slow and steady wins the race as they say.

Days 139, 140 & 141 - Enter Jekyll and Hyde

I had a really fun weekend this weekend. On Friday morning I surprised my wife with a weekend getaway with the kids. I took the day off and I told her get up, get dressed and pack for 2 days (bring beach stuff). We had a great weekend cabin camping on PEI.

Unfortunately, camping (like so may other things) seems to bring out the worst in me health wise. We had junk food and beers around the campfire and meals in restaurants that were far from low-cal. Sigh. I swear I'm it's just like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. I try so hard throughout the week and I do so well, but then I get into a scenario like camping or poker or playing cards with family and everything I've worked for just goes out the window like I'm a totally different person. All these things seem to just be associated with eating, and eating food that is not exactly good for you. I guess that's why I got as big as I did. However, when I get in those situations I just seem to revert to my old self. I need to somehow learn to live a balanced life and perhaps partake in these things with extreme moderation and not do the all or nothing thing that I have been doing. Anyone have any tips with respect to how they deal with living through the same scenarios that got them overweight, but not allowing them to become pitfalls in their new journey?

I know I did really good last week Monday through Thursday. With Friday through Sunday just being a gong show, I'm not sure what to expect on the scale. Things were so bad, I wouldn't be surprised to see a gain... hopefully not too much. Fingers crossed that it's not as bad as I fear.

Day 138 - Yet another good day today

I had another good day today in terms of food. I didn't however get a workout in today. I've just about wrapped up the yard work and I haven't gotten back into a treadmill routine yet, so I'm going to have to get on that again soon.

I guess I was really motivated by hitting my 50% of the way to my target weight because this week has been really great thus far. Day 136 - Another great day today

I had another really good day today, both in terms of food and exercise. Three good meals with good portion control and some yard work tonight. All adds up to a good day. Although my yard work is just about wrapping up, so I'm probably going to have to get on the treadmill again soon. It's typically tough for me to start up a new workout schedule, so I'm really going to have to try to force myself to get on that treadmill the first few times.

Day 135 - Really great day today

After starting my day off with a great surprise on the scale and then realizing I had hit a major milestone, I was really motivated to have a good day... and I did. I had good food today with great portions all day today. Tonight my wife and I made TJ's The Whole Enchilada Chicken Soup and it really was good. We both said it would be something we'd make again and given that it's pretty good for you, we likely will. (Thanks TJ). Also, I got outside for a little more than an hour of yard work today so I even got in a pretty good workout. As I said, a really great day today.

Week 20 weigh in

Whew... the scale wasn't as bad as I feared this morning. I weighed in at 266.8, which is a loss of 2 pounds. Guess my pre-weekend week was even better than I thought last week. I'm definitely happy to see a loss this morning instead of a gain.

I feel a bit odd celebrating a weight loss victory after the weekend I just had, but that 2 pound loss brings me down to 46.8 pounds lost, which is exactly 1/2 my goal. So... yeay, I'm half way there. Virtual high fives all around.

Day 133 & 134 - Oh boy...

Not a great weekend health wise. Unfortunately the weekend was all but a writeoff. Saturday began with a trip to the market, which resulted in various fatty foods and snacks. We did get some veggies, but that wasn't exactly the highlight of the trip. We then headed out of town and had a fried chicken feast for dinner. I felt terrible afterwards, I guess I'm just not used to that kind of meal anymore. Sunday began with a pancake breakfast with the entire family. Good times, but not the healthiest start to the day. From there we hit a BBQ festival in Saint John. This was a lot of ribs, wings and pulled pork. Not a lot of veggies on my plate at this event. We got back home late tonight and wrapped up the day with a frozen pizza. Again feeling a bit blah.

So... after tallying it all up, I'm a bit nervious about tomorrow's weigh in. I know I had a pretty good week going last week until the weekend. I'm hoping that I lost enough through the week that my weekend splurge doesn't hurt me too much on the scale. I'm definitely hoping that I don't see a gain tomorrow, however, that wouldn't exactly shock me. Stay tuned. :-(

Day 132 - Wrapped up the week on a high note

Day 131 - Not so great day today

Today was a bit of a rough day. We needed groceries, so I didn't take a lot of food with me to work today. Unfortunately that meant I was really hungry at the company family fun night tonight. It was a good time, but I think I ate a bit too much, and it wasn't exactly low calorie food. Also, I didn't get a workout in tonight because we got home late and didn't get the kids down for bed until after 10:00. All in all, not a great day, but we got groceries so tomorrow should be better... fingers crossed.

Day 130 - Great day today

I had a really good day today, both with respect to my food and my workout. I had good meals with good portions all day long and tonight, I got out in the yard for almost 2 hours doing some heavy yard work. I'm glad I had a good day because tomorrow we're having a family fun night that work is sponsoring, which typically means bad foods. I'll try to keep things reasonable, but I'm sure I'll be tempted.

Here's how today broke down:

Breakfast:
- Cereal
- Orange juice

Day 129 - Still struggling with portions

I had a pretty good day today, however, my dinner portion was still a bit too large. During dinner I felt that I wanted a bit more food, so I had a little more after finishing my first plate. However, 5 minutes after I was done I felt way too full. So I think I'm going to focus on giving myself a few minutes before helping myself to any seconds at dinner. I've heard that it takes a few minutes for your body to register that you're actually full, which seems to have been the case tonight... by the time I realized I was full, it was too late and I was too full. We'll see if this new strategy will help me cut some calories out of my diet by keeping the second dinner plate at bay.

Here's how today broke down:

- Cereal

Day 128 - Just an OK day today

Today wasn't terrible. I did have some good meals this morning and afternoon. Unfortunately we ate a late dinner and I was really hungry when we finally ate. So, I overloaded on the pasta a little. I also didn't get a workout in. My topsoil was delivered, but it was a bit rainy today, so I didn't get at it. So, my dinner portion was too big and no exercise today... makes for a blah day. Hoping tomorrow is better.

Here's how today broke down:

Breakfast:
- Cereal
- Orange juice
- Pineapple
- Coffee

Lunch:
- Cheeseburger
- Yogurt cup
- Orange

Week 19 weigh in

Well, the scale was a bit forgiving this morning. Even after a bit of a rough weekend, I was able to pull off a loss. I guess that's likely because I tried to be good before the weekend last week as I knew the weekend was going to be a bit tough. I suppose all the exercise didn't hurt either. The scale read 268.8 this morning, which is a three pound loss. I'm definitely happy with that. Now to order some more topsoil so I can keep these workouts going :-)

Day 127 - Exhausted after all that yard work

Spent a lot of hours in the yard today. Got my first load of topsoil spread... so now it's time to order another :-) Probably 4 hours of heavy work in the yard, so that was probably why I was so hungry and snacky tonight. So, unfortunately my food intake wasn't the best (although it wasn't terrible). It's been a week of ups and downs with some great days and some pretty bad days. I'm looking forward to seeing what the scale has to say tomorrow... fingers crossed. :-)

Day 126 - Rough day... as expected

So yesterday was the beer tasting event, so as expected it was a rough day in the weight loss department. Lots to drink and lots to eat, both at the beer tasting and at the wedding afterwards. Day 125 - Not a great day today

I really didn't have a very good day today. Food was alright until this evening, when we decided to get pizza for dinner. Pizza is like my achilles heel. I've been doing really good at staying away from chocolate and chips over the past 125 days (which used to be a staple for me), but I still struggle with pizza. I just can't say no, and when I have it in front of me I just can't seem to stop eating. Needless to say, I ended up eating a few peices too many. And then we had some trouble getting the kids to bed tonight, so I didn't get out into the yard either, so no workout tonight. Sigh. Oh well, every day can't be a good day I guess.

Oh... and Clyde, the yard work I'm doing is out front of my house. We had a culvert laid last year so this year I graded the ground to promote drainage. Now I'm laying topsoil on top over the culvert and I'm planning to sod before this fall. It's a little over 1000 sq feet, so not a huge job, but it's all being done by hand, so it's a bit of a chore. Oh well, good for a workout :-)

Breakfast:
- Cereal
- Orange juice
- Pineapple

Day 124 - Rough food day today... but worked out

Today wasn't the greatest day food-wise. Today was the last day for a woman at work left who is leaving to move to China. So we went out and had a going away lunch at a Steakhouse, followed by cake back at work. So, I'm sure the calories added up. On the bright side, my topsoil arrived today, so I got an hour and a half in lifting and hauling topsoil. Let me tell you, that's a workout for the ages :-)

Here's how today broke down:

Breakfast:
- Cereal
- Orange juice
- Peach

Lunch:
- Beef rib
- Baked potatoe (without sour cream)

Day 123 - Another good food day

I had another good day today in the food department, but again no workout. I'm going to be ordering some topsoil soon, so I'll have a lot of yard work to do, so once that arrives I should be set for a few good workouts again. I haven't been able to get back into a treadmill routine, so I think being forced to do some yard work in the evenings will be good for me.

Here's how today broke down:

Breakfast:
- Cereal
- Orange juice
- Peach
- Coffee

Lunch:
- Smart Ones frozen dinner
- Orange
- Yogurt cup

Day 122 - Great food day, but lazy on the workout front

Week 18 weigh in (a bit late)

To my surprise, I actually pulled off a loss last week. The scale read 271.8 this morning, which is a loss of 1.8 pounds. I'm thrilled with that loss, given the struggles of a getaway weekend.

I'm really going to try and have a good week this week because Saturday will be a bit rough. I have a beer tasting event that I am attending, followed by a wedding that evening. There will be a lot of liquid calories at the tasting event and I have no idea what they are serving at the wedding, but I'd guess it's not going to be real healthy. If I can be good all week except Saturday, I should still be able to pull off a loss... fingers crossed :-)

Days 118 through 121 - Time to get back on track

I'm back from my extended golf weekend. It was definitely a weekend of overindulgences. I did try and make a few changes to improve the weekend in the health department (ie: chicken breast instead of burgers, etc), however, there was definitely too much to eat and drink all weekend long. It was fun, but now it's time to get back on track. I'll have a late weekly weigh-in tomorrow morning and we'll see what the damage is. Hopefully I haven't gained too much back after just one bad weeked... but we'll see.

Day 117 - Great day today

Today was really good. I had a great food day and I did 2 hours of yard work tonight, which allowed me to get a great sweat on. So I'm sure I got a great calorie burn while I was out there. And with next to no snacking tonight, it really was a great day.

I'm headed out of town tomorrow for my golf/poker weekend. I've taken Big Clyde's suggestion and bought some turkey jerky (and sunflower seeds) and I plan on picking up some baked chips once we get there. I'm sure it's going to be a rough weekend in the health department, but I guess those little decisions all add up.

Here's how today broke down:

Breakfast:
- Cereal
- Orange juice
- Coffee

Lunch:
- Smart Ones frozen dinner
- Tangarine (X2)
- Yogurt cup
- Special K mocha bar

Evening Snack:

Day 116 - Decent food day today

I had a pretty good day today with respect to food. Had some good meals, with good portion control and minimal snacking. I didn't get a workout in, partially because I had to work late tonight, but where I was on the treadmill last night I probably wouldn't have worked out anyway. So all in all it was a pretty good day.

Here's how today broke down:

Breakfast:
- Cereal
- Orange juice
- Coffee

Lunch:
- Smart Ones frozen dinner
- Tangarine (X2)
- Yogurt cup

Day 115 - Back on the treadmill

With all the yard work that I've been doing recently, I haven't been on the treadmill much. Well, I'm currently at a stand still in the yard, so I decided I'd hop on the treadmill tonight. I took it a little easy since it's been a while, but I still got a 2 mile walk/jog in, burning over 450 calories. So I'd say it was pretty successful. I also had some pretty good food throughout the day today, so all in all a pretty good day.

Here's how today broke down:

Breakfast:
- Cereal
- Orange juice

Lunch:
- Grilled chicken sandwich
- Chili
- Diet coke

Afternoon snack:

Day 114 - Back to the blogging

This blog has kept me on track for the first 108 days of this journey. I got a bit slack last week, but I'm getting back in the game this week. Today was pretty good, except dinner was kind of slapped together after a game of golf, so it wasn't the best. I did however avoid snacking tonight, and walking my golf game this afternoon gave me a little workout. So a pretty good day today.

Here's how today broke down:

Breakfast:
- Cereal
- Orange juice
- Coffee

Lunch:
- Ham & cheese sandwich
- Yogurt cup with berries
- Coffee

Afternoon snack:

Week 17 weigh in

Well, this was a really rough week. I was MIA from the blog for most of the week. My inlaws were in town so we had lots of visitors and parties. There was also an anniversary party thrown in there. And I fell off the wagon once or twice and indulged in some evening snacking, which has been one of my biggest vices in the past.

Well, with all that said, I decided to jump on the scale this morning anyway. To my surprise, I'm down to 273.6, which gives me a total loss of 40 pounds now. I'm really excited about that, yet I'm kind of confused. I was expecting a gain this week after having such a rough week last week. I'll definitely take the loss, but it just kind of boggles my mind how the scale can give me a loss after what I thought was such a bad week. I suppose I did try to fight throughout the week. For example, I only had a single plate of food at the pot luck anniversary party. And when my inlaws were here to play cards at night, I didn't snack with them when they were passing chips around the table. Perhaps I had a better week than I thought. Now that I think about it, I'm wondering if my evening snacking just made it appear that I had a bad week. I know that sitting in front of the TV and snacking on junk food is one of the major reasons I am as big as I am, and unfortunately I did that a few times this week. Perhaps I was viewing the entire week as a failure because I had fallen back into that bad habit a bit. I guess a few minor failures and a few major victories equals a 2.4 pound losing week.

This week is going to be another struggle I think. I'm going to do as good as I can throughout the week because I'm away next weekend. I'm taking an annual golf trip with the guys. There will be 3 days of poker, drinking and eating... definitely not good in terms of weight loss. So my goal this week is to lose enough throughout the week that the upcoming weekend doesn't result in a gain. It would be nice to get out of this week and still have my 40 pound loss under my belt. Wish me luck :-)
