Day 81 - Great workout, but bad portion

I had a good walk/jog on the treadmill today right after work. I did 5 KMs, which burned about 650 calories. Unfortunately I was starving afterwards and I think I overate a little. I only had 1 bowl of chili, but my goodness it was a big bowl, plus two rolls. I've been told that it's a good idea to have a protein shake after a workout to keep from overeating afterwards, and after tonight, I think that may be some good advice. What does everyone else think?

Day 80 - Pretty good day today

Typical Tuesday today. I did good in the food department, but no workout. I swear I'm going to get going on doing a strength training routine on my non-treadmill days... I just got to get started one of these days.

Day 79 - Great start to the week

I had a good day all around today. Food intake was good, with decent portion sizes and no snacking. I also hopped on the treadmill tonight for a 2.7 mile walk/jog, which included 21 minutes of straight jogging, which is by far my longest since getting back on the treadmill, so I was pretty happy with that. Lets just hope I can keep this up all week... especially with the holiday coming on Thursday.

Week 12 weigh in

My weigh in this morning wasn't half bad. I'm down to 280.4, which is a loss of 2.2 pounds. That's not great, but after such a bad weekend, I'm glad to see a loss at all. I had a great week last week in terms of workouts, so perhaps my workouts offset my bad Fri, Sat, Sun food.

On a sidenote, I have now lost over 10% of my original body weight. That had been a goal of mine and I've now killed it. I haven't thought of a non-food related reward for reaching that goal, but that's OK. I'm just thrilled to have gotten there. I guess my next major goal would be to bread 250, which is just about another 30 pound loss. Wish me luck :-)

Day 78 - Really not a great weekend

I had another struggle of a day today. I was in town with the family in the middle of the day, so for lunch we ended up at Burger King (a craving for an angry whopper got the best of me). That's three days in a row that my good intake hasn't really been very good. I'm a bit dissappointed in myself. Hopefully I haven't gained this week as a result of this weekend. We'll see what the scale has to say at tomorrow's weigh in.

I do however feel a little re-motivated tonight. My wife took some videos of me with my daughter while we were at the park today. We were watching them tonight and seeing how big I look in those videos reminded me of the amount of work I have remaining to get into some kind of decent shape. I can't let myself slip after only losing 30 pounds... I'm not even half way to my goal yet. So, I'm redevoting to my diet and exercise plan this week. Tomorrow is a whole new day.

Day 77 - Had an off day yesterday

Here's another update that's a day late. My Saturday was really an off day yesterday. My food intake just wasn't very good, and being a day after a 5K, I didn't have any workout. My meals weren't very balanced and I ate at really unusual times of the day, so overall I think I overate for the whole day. Plus, I was out again last night, so I had a few beers, which tends to pack on the calories quickly. Hopefully these past two days don't cause a gain for my weigh in tomorrow.

Day 76 - Some good news, yet some bad news

Here's my update for yesterday, a little late, but my wife and I were out last night and I wasn't exactly up for posting a blog update when we got home. I had a pretty good day food wise throughout the day yesterday. And when I got home from work, I had the most amazing walk/jog on the treadmill. I did a 5K, which burned over 700 calories. Unfortunately I had some appitizers and far too many beers at a party lastnight, so the benefit I got from my run was probably wiped out at that party.

Day 75 - Good day, but no workout

I had another good food day today, but I didn't get a workout in. I was on the treadmill yesterday. I still have to figure out what to do on non-treadmill days. Any suggestions? Some kind of strength training is probably the answer I guess, but I'm not a member of a gym. I'll have to keep thinking about this one.

Day 74 - Very blah day today

Don't know if it was the weather (cloudy, muggy & rainy), the fact that I ate too much at breakfast, the fact that I ate at a restaurant at noon or something else altogether, but I felt very blah today. I did force myself to get on the treadmill, but even my exercise didn't feel very good today. Looking back at the day, I don't think it was a bad one, but I've felt better. Here's hoping tomorrow is a better day.

Day 73 - Odd day today

I had a corporate BBQ to attend today, which meant I missed my afternoon snack and I ate some pretty awful food for supper, which meant I didn't eat much of it. Since I wasn't really full when I got home afterwards, I joined my family when they had their dinner. So, even though they were small, I sort of ate two dinners tonight. Obviously, not the best choice when trying to lose weight. I suppose that on the positive side of things, I did skip the dessert table at the BBQ, so that's a win. Since I ran last night, I didn't run tonight, so no workout for me today.

I had a pretty good food day today. My meals were pretty good, no major portion issues and no snacking to speak of. I also did a walk/jog tonight, however, I got a stitch half way through my jog, so there was a bit more walking than I had intended. Still managed to get 2.5 miles in, so that's not too bad. Hope everyone else had a good Monday too.

Week 11 weigh in

My weigh in this morning wasn't half bad. My weight is 282.6, which is down 3.8 pounds. I'm really happy with that, as it puts me only 0.4 pounds away from having lost a full 10% of my original body weight. That has been a mini goal of mine since starting ths journey, which I hope to achieve next week. In the past I would have gone out for pizza and/or ice cream to celebrate such an achievement, but that doesn't seem to make much sense when the achievement is losing weight. Guess I'll have to think up something else to reward myself with. :-)

Day 71 - Wonderful father's day today

It wasn't a great day health-wise, but I had a great father's day non-the-less. Family was around and I got a very cute picture frame from my 2 year old... too cute. This morning I went out to breakfast with my Dad, which was awesome, although you know how those diner breakfasts can be :-) I did avoid the truckers breakfast and just has a breakfast sandwich, so I guess that's one of the better choices I could have made (mini victory?). For dinner I had mussels for an appetizer and back ribs for a main. Not exactly part of my diet, but very delicious. In sticking with my portion control strategy, I only had a 1/2 rack of ribs. I did however enjoy a dessert that my mother brought with her. After all that food, I didn't get any workout in today, but I'll be back on the treadmill tomorrow to try and work some of today's food off.

I had a really great week this past week, but a pretty bad day today, so I'm not sure what to expect at tomorrow's weigh-in. I'm hoping for a few pounds off, but we'll see.

Day 70 - What a great day today

I had a great day today in all aspects. My food was good, no snacking and great portion control. I BBQed some burgers for dinner tonight and I typically have two, but I was able to stop myself after a single burger, which I'm really happy with. I also got an awesome walk/jog in today. I walk/jogged 3.1 miles, which is a 5K... which burned over 600 calories. That included over 20 minutes of jogging, which I'm also thrilled with. So all in all it was a great day. It was nice to have a good day today because we've got some plans for father's day tomorrow, which may mean that tomorrow isn't going to be as good health wise. But I'll try to keep things under control for the weigh in on Monday.

Today was very similar to yesterday in that I had a good day today in the food department, but didn't get a workout in. I'm hoping to fit a run in sometime tomorrow. I've also been a bit hungry tonight as I held back on the supper portion size. I think I'm going to have to eat a few more veggies at dinner time, just so I have a little more in my stomache come 10:00 at night. Well... hope everyone has a great weekend.

I had a good day today in the food department. Although I had a bigger lunch than usual, so I skipped my afternoon snack. I'm also trying to keep dinners at a single plate of food, so now I'm starving. I'm hoping my body can get used to eating a little less food than usual, but it's not a fun process to go through. The food that I did eat today was pretty good, so I'm happy about that. I didn't get any physical activity in today however, so that wasn't great. I've got to figure out what I should be doing on days in between my jogs... any suggestions?

Day 66 - Blast... those portion sizes

One thing I've been trying to do has been to keep my portion sizes under control. I think I've been doing a pretty good job of that, however, tonight I faltered a little bit. We had leftover spaghetti and I loaded up my plate. I must have been hungry because I ate it really fast and didn't realize how full I was until afterwards. About 5 minutes after I ate supper, I knew that my portion size was way too big. Well, nothing I can do about it now, except try to remember that feeling next time we have pasta and avoid making that same mistake again. Other than that little setback, today wasn't bad in the food department. No workout today, but I'll probably hop back on the treadmill again tomorrow. So here's to a better day tomorrow.

Day 65 - Great day today

Today was another one of those great days, where everything falls into place. I had good meals, with great portion control and no snacking to speak of. I also got a really good run in tonight. I walked/jogged 2.5 miles, which burned 500+ calories. It was tough since I didn't do any exercise over the weekend, but I'm glad I got through it. Here's hoping the rest of the week is anywhere close to as good as today was.

Not the greatest weigh in this week. I'm at 286.4, which is a gain of 0.4 pounds. I guess that's as good as could be expected. I can't expect to not exercise and eat poorly and still lose weight. We shouldn't be going away this coming weekend, so here's to a good week this week (all week long) :-)

Day 62, 63 & 64 - Weekend update with William Hanson

My wife and I decided to take a trip out of town this weekend to visit some family. Of course that means get-togethers, dinners in restaurants, late nights playing cards (typically with snacks) and big meals. So, needless to say, it wasn't a real successful weekend in the weight loss department. I was able to stay away from the chips while playing cards and I didn't have much in the alcohol department. So I didn't do as bad as I could have done, however, there were defintely some bad meals and I didn't get any workouts in this weekend. So I'm a bit nervous about the weigh-in tomorrow morning. I'm hoping that I didn't gain any weight last week, but I'm definitely not expecting a big loss. Rather than throwing in the towel, like I would have done in the past after a bad weekend, I'm going to get right back on board tomorrow. I'm hoping that the occational indulence like this weekend will prevent me from feeling too deprived and will allow me to make my eating habit changes a life-long change rather than continuing on the yo-yo I've been on over the past several years. Time will tell I guess. How was everyone else's weekend?

By the time she got home, the only thing I wanted to do was sit in front of a TV. Day 58 - Good food day and some yard work

I had a good day today food wise and didn't have too many sweets as I just had a single cookie at noon. I also got a bit of exercise tonight as I spent 2 hours outside mowing. Hopefully I can keep this going and have a good week this week.

Week 9 weigh in with photos

Slow and steady win the race... right... right... I hope so. It would be very nice if this were the last time I had to lose 100 pounds. It just seems to be going very slowly, although I've heard that taking the weight off slowly is the best way to be sure it's a long term change. So here's hoping that this change lasts forever.

I did have a good weigh in this week. I'm down to 286.0, which is a significant loss of 5.8 pounds from last week. That's even down 1.4 pounds from my week 7.5 weigh in... so I'm happy with that as I seem to be going in the right direction even though I struggled a bit this weekend.

Day 57 - Some good news and some bad news

Well, the bad news first. I had another 4 cookies today. I tried to control myself, but with company here and enjoying the cookies, I just had to partake myself. Oh well, they're almost gone now... so the tempation will be gone soon.

The good news is that I had a great run tonight. I decided to hop on the treadmill while the hockey game was on tonight and I got a 2 mile walk/jog in with 10 minutes of jogging. Burned 400+ calories and felt great afterwards. My best run since getting back on the treadmill a few months ago. Guess that'll take care of one or two of those cookies :-)

Day 56 - Faltering a little today

Well, my wife and I ended up baking some cookies tonight. I know, I know... not the greatest idea when trying to lose weight. My plan was to just have one or two, however, I ended up eating 4 (plus a touch of dough as well). I gotta wonder why I do these things to myself. Over-indulging is what got me to this place and I don't know why I can't control myself sometimes. Wouldn't a typical person just have a cookie or maybe two and then be satisfied? I had to tear myself away from them after 4 (and they're not small cookies). Well, my parents may be here tomorrow, so maybe I can pawn some of them off to them... the sooner they're gone the better (at least diet wise).

Other than that, my food was just OK today and I didn't get a workout in. So today was just a rainy blah day.

Day 55 - Good day all around

Today was a really good day health wise. Day 54 - Good food, but no run again

I ended up working late tonight and just got home, so I didn't get any exercise in today. I did however have another minor victory. Given that I was in town for dinner, I'd typically hit a fast food joint for a double burger and fries. I instead decided to go to a sandwich shop and had a ham & cheese with a milk. Day 53 - Decent food, but no workout

I had pretty good meals today, even though I had a lunch at a restaurant. And I didn't snack tonight as I just had a few hard candies and some chewing gum. Unfortunately, my wife was out tonight and I was watching the kids, so I didn't get a workout in. Perhaps tomorrow.

Day 52 - Celebrating the small victories

Well, I had a lunch today at one of my favorite places in town. The lunch specialty is a pasta buffet... and I think we all know how dangerous buffets can be. I'd typically have 2 - 3 plates of food at the pasta buffet. Today I was able to enjoy just a single plate of pasta. I guess I can count that as a victory, given that one of my main goals is to reduce my portion sizes.

I didn't get an explicit workout in today, however, I did run around the woods for 2 hours playing paintball... so I guess that's like getting in a workout. When I add it all up, I'd say I had an above average day today.

- Dessert plate with small chocolate cake and bread pudding

- 2 hours of paintball
