Day 22 - Anyone have thoughts on calorie counting???

Another decent day with food, very similar to the past few days. My back is definitely getting better, but is still sore and I don't want another set back, so I'm going to give it a few more days.

I've been toying with the idea of tracking calories. Seems like a bit of a daunting task to count every calorie I consume, but I've been told that it's been very helpful to others and that it's not that difficult once you get used to it. Does anyone else have any thoughts or advice on calorie counting?

Here's how today broke down:

Breakfast:
- Strawberry yogurt
- Bowl of cereal
- Orange juice
- Coffee (X2)

Lunch:
- Vegetable beef soup
- Soda crackers
- Milk

Afternoon snack:
- Coffee

Supper:
- Ceasar salad
- Spagetti with meat sauce
- Red wine
- Strawberries with cool whip

Evening Snack:
- Scotch

Workout:
- None (still resting my back)

  2. I count calories also, I need that kind of structure, I don't do well with intuitive eating:) There a several great places you can track, how about checking out, www.fitday.com, www.sparkpeople.com and www.fatsecret.com - all free.

  3. I am a long time calorie counter and you definitely get used to it. I hardly ever have to look anything up anymore, I know most things I eat by heart or it's right there on the package. The hardest part is restaurant meals. One other thing to keep in mind with counting calories is that you will have to measure everything so you know how much you are having.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

  4. I'm not a calorie counter. I think I would feel extremely frustrated with it. Then again, I'm a newbie in this race so I don't have some long 90+ lbs. lost track record either.

I use small plates, try to eat slowly, and drink lots of water instead of other beverages.

But if you look at your eating today, it's easy to see where you've made progress. It's also easy to see where you could make more progress.

*Strawberries at breakfast instead of strawberry yogurt.
*Water at lunch instead of milk (a multivitamin for calcium).
*Ix-nay on the caesar salad; instead, house salad with dressing on the side.
    *Skip the scotch.

But like I said, I don't yet have a 90+ lb. to show that I know what I'm saying works.

  5. I use myfitnesspal.com to track my calories. It's free and they help you set up a goal for daily calories. It also tracks your exercise. It's a pretty good site for no cost.
